SZIIT and the Pakpasak Technical College Deepen Cross-Border Cooperation

2020-01-10

To support and achieve the cooperation goals reached by the Chinese and Lao prime ministers at a meeting on January 6, and develop the China-Laos Community of Shared Future Action Plan, the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) planned to cooperate in finance, information and e-commerce for higher education with its Lao partner. A delegation of experts, under the guidance of the SZIIT leadership, visited the Pakpasak Technical College in Laos on the morning of January 8, 2020 (local time). The delegation was composed of Ms. Deng Guoli (Director of the Public Course Education Department), Mr. Wan Shoufu (Dean of the School of Management), Mr. Zhan Shaobin (Deputy Dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), Mr. Tan Xu (Deputy Dean of the School of Software Engineering), Dr. Zhang Pu from the School of Electronic Communication Technology and Dr. Zhang Yunsheng from the School of International Exchange and Cooperation. The two sides conducted project negotiations and professional discussions. The delegation also provided technical lectures. Additionally, the two sides updated and implemented the "Education Cooperation Agreement between the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology and the Pakpasak Technical College" signed in June last year.

Mr. Bounpheng Somchanmavong (Director of the Technical and Vocational Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos), Mr. Saykham Phanthavong (President of the Pakpasak Technical College and Member of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos), Mr. Wei You (Director of the International Education Center) and the persons in charge of related disciplines attended the meeting.

President Saykham Phanthavong extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an introduction to their college. He looked forward to greater progress in the China-Laos "2+1" International Student Training Program. In addition, he hoped that the experts from Shenzhen could provide professional lectures for his teachers and students and to guide their existing teaching design and training room construction. In this way, the experts would be able to bring advanced technology and management concepts into the Pakpasak Technical College.

Ms. Deng Guoli (head of the delegation) reviewed the early exchanges between the two sides and talked about SZIIT's preparation for the enrollment of international students for four majors in the early stage. She hoped that this meeting could help clarify and satisfy the requirements of all majors and also fulfill the "2+1" International Student Joint Training Agreement and the tasks. Five technical lectures were arranged for the next two days. In addition, abundant e-teaching resources were provided for the related majors. She emphasized that the prime ministers of China and Laos had just met. On this basis, SZIIT would like to be an envoy of friendship and work with the Lao side to facilitate cooperation in vocational education between the two countries.

Director Bounpheng Somchanmavong was very optimistic about the prospect of the cooperation between the two schools. He said that Laos has been trying to conduct international exchanges and cooperation with vocational colleges in China in recent years. This cooperative project received strong support from the Lao Ministry of Education. He hoped that based on the previous cooperation between the two sides, Shenzhen would utilize its information technology and industrial advantages and train high-quality technical and skilled personnel for Laos. In the end, he wished the two sides a successful cooperation.

President Saykham Phanthavong awarded the Certificate of Visiting Professor of the Pakpasak Technical College to the delegation members in the presence of Director Bounpheng Somchanmavong and the main leaders of the Pakpasak Technical College. Representatives of both sides held the opening ceremony for the "International Diplomatic Language Research Center" and the "Shenzhen Industrial Technology School (Vientiane)". Then, according to the schedule, the delegation formally started collaboration with the heads of various disciplines that afternoon and began to prepare for the upcoming work.

This international exchange will further detail the China-Laos International Student Joint Training Program, lay a solid foundation for enrollment for Lao students and also further strengthen our cooperation with ASEAN countries. This is an important part for our implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and a breakthrough in our continued export of educational resources to ASEAN countries to achieve win-win cooperation. In addition, this is another effort made by SZIIT to build itself into a high-level vocational college featuring quality disciplines.
