SZIIT ranks first in terms of the operation of school among all vocational technology universities and colleges nationally: It is recognized as a high-level vocational institution in China with the characteristics of ICT and a comprehensive advanced ICT major matrix.

Founded in April 2002 (after the merge of three schools established back in 1982, namely Shenzhen Institute of Education, Shenzhen Industrial School and Shenzhen School of Finance and Economics), Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) is a public full-time institution providing higher education in Shenzhen. Approved by the People's Government of Guangdong Province, it has been registered under the Ministry of Education (MOE) and therefore administered by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government.

As one of the first batch of schools involved in High Level Higher Vocational School and Disciplinary Development Plan with Chinese Characteristics (‘Double High Plan’), the School is the National Demonstration (core) Higher Vocational Institution, National Demonstration Software Vocational Institution and Pilot School of the ‘Sino-German Automotive Vocational Education Project’ launched by the MOE. It’s now home to three national higher vocational education professional teaching resource libraries (including 1 alternative project).

The campus covers an area of 925,000 square meters (1,389 mu), with a construction area of 584,800 square meters.

There are 1577 faculty members, including 944 full-time teachers, 430 of whom are doctors, accounting for 50% of the faculty team; 89% of teachers are qualified both as academic lecturer and career mentor.

We offer nearly 50 majors related to ICT.

There are over 20,000 full-time students studying here.

The institution offers three-year junior college programs, four-year undergraduate programs and postgraduate programs,

and has been rated among the TOP 50 Chinese higher vocational schools in terms of teaching management, internship

management and teaching resources and TOP 50 service providers

Deep Integration of Production and Education with Distinctive IT Characteristics. With distinctive characteristics of information technology, the Institute has established Shenzhen Information Vocational Education Group, and closely worked with leading companies such as Huawei and Tencent to establish a dynamic adjustment mechanism of major-setting for the new IT era, fully aligning with the ICT industry in aspects of major-setting, faculty recruitment, students’ training, teaching and research, internship and employment, as well as social services. 

Over 90% of the majors offered in SZIIT are closely related to the R&D, application and service of the information industry, making it one of the higher vocational institution with a relatively complete major-setting for the new generation of IT and national security strategy. The Institute has initiated to build the first National ‘Microelectronic Technology Professional Committee of National Association for Vocational and Technical Education’ and thus established the first School of Microelectronics in higher vocational colleges; In collaboration with the China Advanced Semiconductor Industry Innovation Alliance (CASA) and Shenzhen Institute of Wide-bandgap Semiconductors (WinS), SZIIT has jointly built the demonstration base of talent training and production-education integration for wide-bandgap semiconductor in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). By cooperating with the National Integrated Circuit Design Shenzhen Industrialization Base, etc., it has jointly built the national ‘Core Fire’ platform talent training base; SZIIT has signed strategic cooperation agreements with 8 companies including Huawei, Sangfor, and 360, and established the ‘Cyberspace Security Academy’; SZIIT has also cooperated with Huawei to launch the ICT Academy; and has jointly established the

‘Artificial Intelligence Academy’ with Tencent and Amazon;

Talent training forms a highland for vocational education: develop a "full chain" of industry oriented talent training system featuring technical skills

The Institute is positioned to cultivate innovative, application-oriented and skilled talents in ICT- related areas. We have developed a "full chain" of industry- oriented talent training system featuring technical skills. Closely aligned with Shenzhen's strategic emerging industries, SZIIT has continued to explore modern vocational training mechanisms, rationally establishing 11 high- level majors such as software technology and mobile communication technology, with 10 characteristic industry colleges like "Core Fire".

At the same time, the Institute has built a modern vocational education system that runs through secondary vocational, higher vocational, application- oriented undergraduate and above levels, exploring apprenticeship with Chinese characteristics, and strengthening the cultivation of innovative, application- oriented, and skilled talents. The Institute is dedicated to training technical craftsmen, technical experts and knowledge experts for different jobs, and effectively playing the supporting role of the talent chain to the industrial chain.

We have implemented the "1234+X" talent training model reform. Focusing on the fundamental task of training students with high level of morality, the Institute is carrying out the "1234+X" reform under the background of AI. We have adopted the talent training model of "one center, two services, three whole processes, four integrations" at school, and highlighted the "X" characteristics of different majors, and cultivated technical skills, skilled craftsmen and national craftsmen with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical education, and art, reflecting the high- quality development of vocational education.

The Institute has jointly designed the curriculum system with industry- leading enterprises, integrating certificates recognized by the industry into classroom teaching. A joint faculty team has been formed to develop project- based courses and teaching materials. The Institute has also jointly established engineering practice bases for talent training, hire enterprise engineering and technical experts as part-time teachers, involving students in the technological innovation and engineering development of enterprises. The Institute has adopted the teaching methodology of “intensive lecturing and extensive practice”.

The reform of “teachers- textbooks- teaching methods”will be carried out with the focus on the job- specific capabilities needed by students. The Institute has constructed a curriculum system featuring “platform + module”. We have strengthened the development of an innovative faculty team, creating “golden courses” with SZIIT characteristics, and jointly designed national key textbooks with enterprises. The Institute has carried out education reform research and implemented digital transformation projects. Here,industry, education and research are deeply integrated, offering training bases with high end demands in the market.The Institute ranks 7th in the GDI Top 1000 Vocational Colleges (2021 ), and has won the gold medal in the first National Vocational Skills Competition. The employer satisfaction achieved by students is as high as 97%.

The Institute has jointly established 231 off- campus practice bases and 55 on- campus bases with the government and enterprises. We now have 4 National Higher Vocational Education Training Bases, 16 Provincial Higher Vocational Digital Education Training Bases, 1 Provincial Public Training Center, 1 Provincial Simulation Training Center, more than 16 Provincial Off- campus Practice Teaching Bases for College Students and over 45 Municipal Off- campus Public Training Bases for Vocational Education.
