I. School Profile

The School of Software Engineering, a leading Institute school, is based in Shenzhen and covers the Pearl River Delta region providing services for regional IT, ICT and DT industries. It is committed to developing high-quality skilled personnel for software and applications, data analysis and mining, intelligent embedding and application as well as mobile Internet development and application. The School has 1,929 students in four majors that meet Shenzhen's industrial needs, including Software Technology (a key major in national backbone colleges and universities and a first-class brand-name major in Guangdong Province), Computer Information Management (a key major and a high-level construction major in Guangdong Province), Embedded Technology and Application (a second-class brand-name major in Guangdong Province) and Mobile Internet Application and Technology. In recent years, the School has won many honors such as the First Prize in the National Teaching Achievement Competition and the Advanced Unit of the National Education System.

The School has 61 faculty members including 28 members having sub-senior or higher titles and 30 doctors or postdocs. All the full-time teachers have dual titles or double certificates. At present, the School has a national-level teaching team, two provincial-level teaching teams, a provincial-level star teacher, two Zhujiang Scholar Program positions and five candidates for higher vocational education leader in Guangdong Province. It also has a provincial-level candidate of the Thousand, Hundred and Ten Project in Guangdong Province, an Excellent Teacher in Southern Guangdong, a Pengcheng Scholar and three local high-level talent leaders in Shenzhen. In 2017, full-time teachers of the School led two National Natural Science Foundation projects.

The School continues to explore new models for developing student qualities by establishing a six-dimensional radar system of a "professional quality bank", creating an atmosphere of self-learning, healthy living and being responsible and innovative based on school associations with the themes of body quotient (BQ), science and technology and culture. Overweight people are encouraged to lose weight here and lazybones are encouraged to get up early. School clubs such as the Weight Control Club and the Early Bird Training Camp have helped many students become more positive and energetic.

In recent years, school students have achieved high results in skill competitions and won more than 20 first prizes at or above the provincial level, including the First Prize of the Mobile Internet Application Software Development in the National Vocational College Skills Competition, the First Prize in the "China Software Cup" College Students Software Design Competition, the First Prize in the "Challenge Cup" National Vocational School Innovation, Effectiveness and Entrepreneurship Competition and the Special Prize in the "Blue Bridge Cup" National Software and Information Technology Talent Competition. In addition, the School has developed many outstanding student entrepreneurs such as Zhuang Chuangfeng, Chen Jialiang and Lin Zhongdu. More than 30 graduates and student teams have successfully registered to start their own businesses. Our graduates are well received by enterprises with an average employment rate of 98%. They are not only employed by small and medium-sized enterprises, but also gradually accepted by Huawei, Tencent, Lenovo, ZTE, Foxconn, Hisun Technology and many other well-known enterprises.

II. School Highlights

In 2014, the School won the First Prize in the National Teaching Achievement Competition and the honor of the Advanced Unit of the National Education System.

In 2015, it was listed as the Software Evaluation and Testing Base of the National Information Center.

In 2009, it was listed as the National-level Vocational Education Training Base - a vocational education training base for computer application and software technology financed by the central government.

In 2015, it was approved to develop brand-name vocational education majors in Guangdong Province and was also listed as the Cooperative Education Base for Innovative Software Talent.

In 2016, it was approved to develop high-level majors in Guangdong Province, including the first-class Software Technology major (a provincial-level brand-name major) and the second-class Computer Technology Information Management and the second-class Embedded Technology and Application majors.

In 2015, it was authorized by Google Company to be an Android Talent Training Model Base.

In 2017, it was authorized to be an ACAA Test Venue.

Ⅲ. Student Honors and Achievements

In 2017, the Communist Youth League Committee of the School of Software Engineering won the honor of the Dynamic Committee of the Communist Youth League of Universities and Colleges in China.

In 2017, one of the School's summer social practice projects won the honor of the 2017 Outstanding Summer Social Practice Project for Communist College Students in Guangdong Province.

In 2017, the Communist Youth League Committee of the School of Software Engineering won the honor of the May 4th Red Flag Communist Youth League Committee in Shenzhen.  

In 2017, our students won a national third prize in the Sixth "China Software Cup" College Students Software Design Competition.

In 2017, our students won a first prize in Software Testing in the National Vocational Skills Competition and a first prize in the Guangdong Trials of the Big Data Technology and Application Competition.

In 2016, the Student Union of the School of Software Engineering won the honor of the "Excellent Student Union in Guangdong Province".

In 2016, our students won two first prizes, three second prizes and eight third prizes in national skills competitions such as the "Higher Education Cup" National College Students Mathematical Modeling Contest and the "China Software Cup" College Students Software Design Competition.

In 2016, our students won three third prizes in the "Blue Shield College Cup" 26th Software Design and Information Security Competition in Guangdong Province.

In 2016, our students won a national first prize, two special prizes and four first prizes in Guangdong Province in the "Challenge Cup - Rainbow Life" National Vocational School Innovation, Effectiveness and Entrepreneurship Competition.

In 2016, students won an Innovation Award and two first prizes in the "Blue Shield College Cup" 26th Software Design and Information Security Competition of Guangdong Province. Our students have won ten first prizes in this competition since 2010.

In 2016, students won four first prizes in single competitions in the National Robot Competition and the Olympic Humanoid Robot Competition. Our students have won 16 first prizes in single item competitions since 2012

In 2016, our students won the second prize in a national college student software test competition.

In 2016, our students won two second prizes in an educational event with the theme of "My Chinese Dream" in Guangdong Province.

In 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013, many students and teams won the honor of Advanced Individual or Advanced Team for Summer Social Practice Activities in Guangdong Province.

IV. Major Introduction

    1. Software Technology

   [Educational Objectives] The Software Technology major is a key major in national backbone colleges and universities and it is also a model major in Guangdong Province. Furthermore, it was approved to be developed into a brand-name major in Guangdong Province in 2016. This major adopts a detail-focused talent development mode and has a curriculum system of complete credit system + capability modularization with focus on four professional fields which are Java, Python, software testing and UI design. Freshmen complete their study of basic courses in the first semester and choose professional courses according to their future career development and interests in the second semester. This major, covering Shenzhen and the rest of the Pearl River Delta region, is designed for satisfying the rapid development of the software industry chain. Relying on Shenzhen's advantage in the software industry, this major enables its students to achieve all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetics, learn about software development standards, be familiar with the product and UI design process, understand the software design and development concepts and acquire the basic ability to conduct project demand analysis. In addition, it also helps students to master two programming languages and be able to successfully complete enterprise-level project development and testing tasks in accordance with software engineering requirements. It aims to develop innovative technical or skilled personnel who are competent in software programming, coding, testing, UI design, system maintenance, project tracking and management, software sales, consulting and technical support.

   [Main Courses] Basic course: Java Programming Fundamentals, HTML5 Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Graphic Design, UI Design Fundamentals, Data Structure, Software Testing Fundamentals and Software Engineering.

Core course (Java): Advanced Java Programming, Java Web Development, Android Application Development Fundamentals, Lightweight J2EE Application Development and Comprehensive Project Practice.

Core course (Python): Python Fundamentals, Python Web, Python Scrapy, Python Data Analysis, Python Automated Testing and Python Operation and Maintenance.

Core course (Software Testing): Unit Testing Tools and Applications, Functional Testing Tools and Applications, Performance Testing Tools and Applications, Web Application Testing, Database and SQL and Mobile Software Development and Testing.

Core course (UI Design): Interaction Design, Art Fundamentals, Front-end Web Development Technology, PHP Development Fundamentals, UI Design Fundamentals, Mobile UI Design, etc.

[Employment Prospects] Graduates can work for software development and testing companies or for the IT department of government agencies, enterprises and public institutions as programmers, software designers, front-end development engineers, software testing engineers, UI designers, project assistants, software marketers, quality assurance personnel and technical support engineers.

[Excellent Teacher] Professor Qin Guorong is a system analyst. She graduated from the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University in 1992 and received a master's degree in computer software from Peking University in 2000. She has led 11 scientific research projects, published 38 academic papers, completed 13 horizontal projects and served more than 300,000 users. She has maintained excellent teaching quality for more than ten years, guiding her students to participate in software design competitions and helping them win more than 20 national and provincial awards. She has won many honorary titles such as the Star Teacher for Higher Education, "Special Support Program" and Vocational Education at the Provincial Level, the City-Level High-Level Talent, the Outstanding Expert and the Shenlong Elite in Longgang District and she is also a winner of the First Campus Star Teacher Competition.

2.Computer Information Management

[Educational Objectives] This major, covering Shenzhen and the rest of the Pearl River Delta region, follows the development trend of the DT industry in the Big Data era and conducts a college-enterprise operating model with well-known enterprises such as Oracle, Google, Cloudera, etc. It aims to enable its students to achieve all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetics. Students should demonstrate core socialist values, boast good work ethics and humanistic qualities and acquire practical capabilities for information technology innovation and entrepreneurship. They should also develop their skills in data storage and management, data processing and application and data analysis and visualization and be able to conduct problem analysis and practical operation according to the standardized process. Graduates should be highly qualified technical or skilled personnel who are competent in database management, operation and maintenance, web software development, data processing and analysis, website optimization and management and big data platform architecture.

[Main Courses] Supporting course: Java Programming, Information Technology Fundamentals, Database Design and Implementation, Linux Operating System Application and LAMP Project Development Training.

Core course (Database Management Operation and Maintenance): SQL Programming and Practical PL/ SQL Programming for the OCA Credential, Database Management and Linux Cloud Computing for the OCP Credential.

Core course (Big Data Application Technology): Python Programming, Hadoop Fundamentals, Big Data Storage Technology Practice and Spark Big Data Analytics Technologies.

Core course (Web Application Development): Front-end Web Development Technology, MySQL Database Application Development, Java Web Application Development and Cross-platform HTML5 Practice.

[Employment Prospects] The initial employment rate for graduates of this major has remained stable at over 98%. Graduates can work as database administrators, front-end web development engineers, big data engineers, data analysts, Java programmers, project management specialists, ERP implementation consultants, software testing engineers, system operation and maintenance engineers, information supervisors, etc. Many outstanding graduates majored in Information Management are working for well-known enterprises such as Huawei, Tencent, Standard Chartered, Kingdee and Audaque, including a typical example of a graduate receiving an annual salary up to 3 million yuan.

[Additional Information] As the first awarded provincial key major and a high-level major in the first-class vocational colleges in Guangdong Province, this major has a provincial-level higher vocational education training base, a provincial-level off-campus practical teaching base and a provincial-level excellent information management technology teaching team. In 2017, this major was approved to establish positions for the Zhujiang Scholar and the Pengcheng Scholar programs and it was also approved by the National Computer Science Education Steering Committee to participate in the development of standards for the Big Data Technology and Application major. A flexible credit system is applied for this major. In the second semester, students can independently choose the core curriculum modules in three professional fields (database management, operation and maintenance, big data technology and application and web application development) according to their own interests and career development. This major attaches great importance to the development of its students' innovation and entrepreneurial ability as well as the improvement of their comprehensive qualities. The students majoring in Information Management have achieved outstanding results in entrepreneurship and innovation competitions, ranking top in all majors of the School.

[Excellent Teacher] Professor Tan Xu is a doctor at the National Defense University of Science and Technology, a permanent Distinguished Professor of the Pengcheng Scholars Program and a part-time master tutor at Xiangtan University. He is also a provincial-level candidate of the "Thousand, Hundred and Ten Project" for the higher education in Guangdong Province, a candidate for the first batch of higher vocational education leaders in Guangdong Province and the head of the excellent teaching team in Guangdong Province. Additionally, he has won the honorary titles of the Excellent Teacher in Southern Guangdong, the Excellent Teacher in Shenzhen and the Star Teacher of the School. For many years, he has been committed to the research of intelligent evaluation and decision-making as well as big data-based public opinion analysis and he has also engaged in the theoretical and practical teaching of computer information management. In recent years, he has published more than 60 academic papers (21 EI papers and nine SCI papers) in well-known Chinese and foreign journals and led 14 educational research projects such as projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education, the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province and the High-level Talent Project of Guangdong Province. He has always been responsible for reviewing articles in domestic and foreign journals such as IJUFKBS and System Engineering Theory and Practice. He conducts expert reviews on projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province and the Science and Technology Department of Guangdong Province. His expert reviews are also given to Shenzhen's basic science and technology research projects, the Shenzhen Social Science Fund projects and the Shenzhen Municipal Government procurements. In addition, he is the Party Representative on the Shenzhen Municipal Education Commission and the Vice President of the Shenzhen Association of Young Science and Technology Personnel. In recent years, he has directly guided his students to participate in various skills and entrepreneurship competitions and helped them win more than 20 awards including national first prizes and provincial special prizes.

3.Embedded Technology and Application

[Educational Objectives] The Embedded Technology and Application major is an interdisciplinary specialty with distinctive features on the basis of computer science, mobile Internet and electronic and automation technologies. This major meets the requirements of the rapid development of the Internet of Things and the intelligent terminal industries. It covers the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and mainly focuses on enabling its students to achieve all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetics. Graduates should be high-quality technical or skilled personnel who have well developed comprehensive qualities and they should understand computer hardware principles and the basic composition of embedded systems and acquire basic development capabilities in embedded system and application software. In addition, they should also be able to conduct engineering application development, product testing, technical support and management and maintenance of embedded systems.

   [Main Courses] Embedded C Language Programming, C++ Object-oriented Programming, Embedded Real-time Operating System, Microcontroller Principle and Application, Embedded Linux Operating System Principles, Android Application Design, ARM Embedded System Development, Python Application Programming, Embedded Android Project Design and Development, HTML5 Application Programming, Embedded Smart Home System Integration and Intelligent Robot Application Development.

[Employment Prospects] Graduates can work as embedded system test engineers, technical support engineers, embedded product sales engineers, embedded application development engineers, mobile Internet application software development engineers, embedded LINUX development assistant engineers, field engineers and Android software testing and evaluation engineers. They can also be candidates for high-level embedded technology roles, embedded system operation and maintenance engineers, application development and debugging assistant engineers, mobile device development engineers, embedded assistant engineers, 3G smartphone application development programmers and mobile apps development programmers.

[Excellent Teacher] Professor Li Huazhong, holding a Ph.D. degree at Harbin Institute of Technology, is the teaching and research office director and the professional leader for the Embedded Technology and Application major. He is a core member of the development team for the second-class brand-name Embedded Technology and Application major which is a part of high-level higher vocational education majors in Guangdong Province and also a core member of the provincial embedded technology and application teaching team. He has led or participated in 32 national, provincial, municipal and university-level educational scientific research projects. He has published 46 papers in Chinese and foreign academic journals as the first author and acted as the editor-in-chief for five textbooks including the 12th Five-Year Plan textbook of the Ministry of Education. Additionally, he has two national invention patents, ten utility model patents and eight software copyrights. He conducts expert reviews on the professor-level candidates for vocational education in Guangdong Province as well as on Shenzhen's basic science and technology research projects and the Shenzhen Municipal Government procurements. He has directed his students to participate in national, provincial, ministerial and municipal competitions and helped them win more than 60 awards, including 25 first prizes.

4.Mobile Internet Application Technology

[Educational Objectives] The Mobile Internet Application Technology major meets the requirements of the rapid development of Shenzhen's mobile Internet industry. It adopts a detail-focused talent development mode and a curriculum system of complete credit system + capability modularization with focus on the Android and IOS fields. Freshmen complete their study of basic courses in the first semester and choose professional courses according to their future career development and interests in the second semester. Relying on Shenzhen's advantage in the software industry, this major develops high-quality technical or skilled personnel who acquire the mobile Internet application and development capabilities and systematically understand the cross-platform programming languages and the basic mobile Internet theories and knowledge. Furthermore, they should also be competent in the development, testing, maintenance and technical support of the front and back ends of mobile terminal systems.

   [Main Courses] Basic course: Java Programming Fundamentals, HTML5 Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Graphic Design, UI Design Fundamentals, PHP Development Fundamentals, Data Structure and Software Testing Fundamentals.

Core course for Android: Android Application Development Fundamentals, Advanced Android Development Technology and Android Project Development Practice

Core course for IOS: Objective-C Programming, iOS Application Development Fundamentals, Advanced iOS Development Technology and iOS Project Development Practice.

[Employment Prospects] Graduates should be high-quality technical or skilled personnel who are able to conduct Android and iOS application software development, front-end Web development, back-end server development and UI graphic design for telecom companies and mobile game software enterprises. In addition, they should also be able to start their own mobile Internet business and conduct mobile platform marketing.

[Excellent Teacher] Dr. Lai Hong, graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, is a senior engineer who worked as a system architect for ZTE's Wireless Research Institute. He is a leader in the mobile Internet application technology field and a candidate for outstanding young talent in Guangdong Province. He instructed his students to win a first prize in the National Mobile Internet Application Technology Skills Competition for Vocational Colleges, a first prize in Guangdong Province in the “Higher Education Cup” Software" Design Competition and two first prizes in the Guangdong Province in the “Blue Bridge Cup” National Software and Information Technology Talent Competition.

[Excellent Students]

Yao Jianbin, admitted to the School of Software Engineering in 2015, is now a junior student majoring in Software Technology. He is the founder of Shenzhen Micro Fish Technology Co., Ltd. and a shareholder of several companies such as Dongguan Century Sports Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Antou Technology Co., Ltd.

Relying on the business model of O2O project exploration + marketing operation outsourcing service, he is qualified by a number of well-known companies and brands to provide them with outsourcing services. He has served many companies such as Shenzhen Haojiuhui Liquor Co., Ltd., Hong Kong Monet Bird's Nest, Shanghai Shengmeng Culture Creative Co., Ltd. and Macao Unicorn Culture and Creative Co., Ltd., achieving significant business growth.

Zou Guanyang majored in Software Technology at the School of Software Engineering and graduated in 2017. He is the founder of Yangjun Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and the entrepreneurial team led by him has outstanding performance. After one year, his company has cooperated with various regional government agencies such as Jieyang Municipal People's Government, Meizhou Tourism Bureau, Longgang District Works Bureau, Longgang District People's Government, Nanshan District Public Security Bureau, Nanshan District Statistics Bureau, etc. Additionally, it has also conducted in-depth cooperation with large enterprises and high-level institutions such as Shenzhen Zhonghaofeng Investment Development Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Moran Logistics Co., Ltd., Zhongshan Teststone Advertising Co., Ltd., the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Nanchang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, etc. His company has been getting stronger and stronger. In 2017, it collaborated with the School of Information Technology on the project of “VR Roaming Universiade Village, Dreams Come True from the SZIIT".

Xu Weijian majored in Computer Information Management at the School of Software Engineering and graduated in 2014. During his time at school, he actively participated in various innovation and entrepreneurial competitions and he was interested in various professional skills such as PS and UI design. He held the position of design lecturer for the Student Innovation Studio of his department for two years. He joined Tencent (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd. as a UI visual designer in 2016. He is responsible for the design of the Tencent Car and Life refueling card project, Tencent's "Financial Cloud" project and "No-Scanning Payment" project and also assists in project interaction. His annual salary is about 250,000 yuan.

Ye Yongjian majored in Embedded Technology and Application at the School of Software Engineering and graduated in 2018. During his time at school, he won many awards such as several first prizes in the International Humanoid Robot Olympic Competition of the National Robotics Championships, the second prize in the "China Software Cup" College Student Software Design Competition and in the "China Star Cup" Computer Works Competition in Guangdong Province. He is working in the Military Equipment R&D Department of DJI's subsidiary Guangzhou Tianxiang Aviation Technology Co., Ltd., mainly engaged in the development of drone ground stations and geographic mappers.

Cai Mingpeng majored in Mobile Internet Application Technology at the School of Software Engineering and graduated in 2018. During his time at school, he won the second prize of the Big Data Technology and Application project in the Guangdong Higher Vocational College Skills Competition, the first prize of the Mobile Internet Application Software Development Project in the Guangdong Higher Vocational College Skills Competition and the third prize in the “Blue Shield College Cup” Software Design and Information Security Competition, etc. He is currently working in the Game Development Department of Shenzhen Xingzhi Technology Co., Ltd., mainly engaged in the C++ game development.
