School Profile

There are currently 6 majors in the School of Traffic and Environment ("the School"), namely urban rail transit operation management, automotive electronics technology, construction engineering management, landscape engineering technology, indoor environment detection and control technology and environmental engineering technology. By now, there are 1,546 students in the School. Since its establishment in 2004, there have been 2,329 graduates, with the average graduation rate and employment rate both reaching over 98%.

The School attaches great importance to the training of faculty members, and has a group of high-quality "double-qualified" teachers (63 by now), including 4 with senior professional titles, 23 with associate senior professional titles and 21 with intermediate titles, as well as 32 with a doctor degree and 16 with a master degree. The school has been working with enterprises and integrating teaching with the industry by forming a partnership with 38 renowned enterprises in the industry. To meet the needs during teaching, the school has a team of part-time teachers who are influential in both enterprises and the industry. Faculty members actively conducted teaching reforms and technology research & development activities. The school has been included in the Sino-German Automotive Vocational Education (SGAVE) Program and granted Demonstration Site for Traffic and Transportation Major of National Vocational Colleges under the Ministry of Education (Urban Rail Transit Operation Management), the First Batch of Key Majors in Guangdong Province (Urban Rail Transit Operation Management), Guangdong Brand Building Major (Environmental Engineering Technology) and Guangdong Excellent Teaching Team (Indoor Environment Detection and Control Technology). It has been granted the Guangdong Practical Training Base in Construction Engineering Technology for Higher Vocational Education and the Guangdong Practical Training Base for Electronic Automobile Technology. It has 2 Practice Teaching Bases for College Students of Guangdong Province (Shenzhen Metro - Urban Rail Operation, and International Low Carbon City - Environmental Engineering). It has 5 Guangdong Excellent Shared Courses. There are about 130 government-approved teaching and research programs, with the contract funds of 16.02 million yuan, supporting funds of 4.65 million yuan and collected funds of 8.3 million yuan; there are 22 enterprise-funded research programs, with the contract funds of 4.52 million yuan, including 7 Programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 10 Programs of Guangdong Natural Science Foundation and 25 Program of Shenzhen Science and Technology Project. In 2014, the school was granted a civilized women organization in Guangdong. Students have obtained fruitful results in various skill contests.

Majors

1 Urban Rail Transit Operation Management (Demonstration Site for Traffic and Transportation Major of National Vocational Colleges under the Ministry of Education)

[Educational Objectives] This major aims to train high-quality technical and skilled talents who pursue all-round development, practice the socialist core values, are highly educated, have good professional ethics and humanities, master the basic knowledge of this major such as traffic organization, passenger transport organization and ticketing organization, and main technical skills such as equipment operation, train driving and safety management, and work as terminal attendant, driver and dispatcher in rail transit operating enterprises in the urban rail transit industry.

[Main Courses] Urban Mass Transit Introduction, Urban Mass Transit Signal and Communication System, Urban Mass Transit Traffic Organization, Urban Mass Transit Ticketing Organization, Urban Mass Transit Passenger Transport Organization, Urban Mass Transit Operation Safety Management, Urban Mass Transit Station Equipment, Urban Mass Transit Vehicle, Urban Mass Transit Electric Train Driving, Urban Mass Transit Traction Power Supply Technology, Public Transport, Intelligent Transportation System, Comprehensive Skill Training, Internship, etc.

[Employment Prospects] Students can engage in passenger transport organization and service, traffic dispatching, passenger car driving, ticketing management, station equipment application, train reception and departure, etc., as well as passenger transport organization, traffic dispatching and others in railway and highway transportation in enterprises and public institutions of urban rail transit (including metro, mass transit railway, light rail, rail, inter–city railway, etc.).

[Excellent Teaching Conditions] The urban rail transit operation management major was awarded a demonstration site for traffic and transportation major of national vocational colleges under Ministry of Education in July 2017, and passed the acceptance for a key major in Guangdong in October 2017. Since its establishment in 2005, the enrollment rate with the major as the first choice has been 100%. At present, there are 306 students in 6 classes, including students of Class of 2015, 2016 and 2017. Since 2005, more than 630 talents have been employed by Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. and other relevant enterprises, with employment rate reaching 92.5%. The employers’ satisfaction rate for graduates reached over 99%, and 32 persons were rewarded by the operation headquarter of Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd., and the proportion of graduates receiving a promotion ranked on the top in the same class of graduates. Ninety-one persons received a big promotion after working for 2 years and 5 persons received promotions for two consecutive years.

Since its establishment, the team has focused on close cooperation with rail transit enterprises, and leveraged on the advantage of industry-enterprise resources to explore a university-enterprise cooperation mode that “seeks mutual benefit and conducts targeted training for good employment" based on majors jointly established by the industry, colleges and enterprises. Moreover, it is actively reforming a "modern apprenticeship" talent training mode with its own characteristics. Universities and enterprises have jointly set up specialized courses and supporting teaching resource libraries, and have built a comprehensive campus practical training base integrating 4 core functions featuring "comprehensive operation, vehicle construction, driving simulation and virtual simulation", with an area of over 1,000 m2 and total investment of 11,414,400 yuan. Relying on Shenzhen Metro, the major has established a practice teaching base for college students in Guangdong at Shenzhen Metro.

The major has a team composed of 13 full-time teachers and 27 part-time teachers, with a ratio of 1:2. Among 13 full-time teachers, 9 teachers have a master degree or above, and 4 teachers have a doctor degree, accounting for 69.2% and 30.8% respectively. There are 11 teachers with a senior professional title, accounting for 84.6%. There are 13 double-qualified teachers, accounting for 100%. There are also 11 teachers who previously worked in enterprises, 3 teachers serving as technical consultant or senior trainer in enterprises, 1 serving as a leader in the major and 4 key teachers. In the past 5 years, the team has set up 1 national, 4 provincial and 3 municipal teaching and research projects, 3 school-level education and teaching research projects and 3 enterprise-funded research projects, and has established 2 provincial and 3 school-level high-quality resource sharing courses, compiled 3 textbooks, jointly compiled 2 textbooks in the "12th Five-Year Plan", and published over 50 various teaching and research papers. The team has also provided enterprises with technical training for over 3,000 times as well as technical support in formulation of vocational qualification standards, pre-job training for employees, and development of employee skill assessment library. The team has demonstrated its high quality and good effect in serving the society. Students won 1 Second Prize of National Skills Contest, and 1 First Prize and 1 Third Prize of Provincial Contest; teachers won 1 Second Prize of National Information Teaching Design Contest. The team has frequently conducted exchanges with other colleges inside and outside the province, visited renowned enterprises in the industry for multiple times, participated in annual meeting of the national advisory committee for urban rail transit for 3 times, and has certain popularity and influence inside and outside the province. Under the new landscape of industrial development and general framework of the "Progress Plan" of the school, this major is looking into the future and making explorations for rapid development.

[Excellent Teacher] Zhao Xiaoju, female, born in 1980, associate professor and a core teacher for the major, mainly teaches 3 specialized courses including Operation Safety Management of Urban Rail Transit, presides over 1 provincial high-quality resource sharing class, and has published 3 textbooks. She has presided over or participated in more than 10 school-level, municipal, provincial programs, published 18 teaching and research papers, and is listed as school-level trainee in the provincial "Thousand-Hundred-Ten" talent training program. She has been teaching for more than 10 years, and has been awarded "excellent teacher in teaching quality" for many times. In addition, she has been well-received among students thanks to her noble ethics.

[Excellent Graduate] Zhou Wenmin, male, a graduate of urban rail transit operation management of the Class of 2015, is now a terminal attendant of Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. He was awarded the “ambassador for the operation headquarters”, "the most popular participant" and "Third Winner in Vocational Skills Contest" in the Finals of the 8th "Star of Youth" Contest of Operation Headquarter of Shenzhen Metro Group Co., Ltd. held on December 9, 2016, which hit a new record in excellent performance by graduates of the major in the metro company.

2 Automotive Electronic Technology (SGAVE Demonstration Major of the Ministry of Education)

[Educational Objectives] This major aims to train high-quality skilled talents who pursue all-round development, practice socialist core values, are highly educated, have good professional ethics and humanistic quality, master basic knowledge and main technical skills of the major. Targeting traditional carmakers, electric car makers and companies providing maintenance, testing and production services, such talents can engage in detection and maintenance of electronic control system and electric system of various traditional cars and electric vehicles, installation, debugging, detection, and maintenance of electronic products, and auxiliary design, research and development of automotive electronic products and production management, quality management, product sales at automobile and electronic product makers. They can also engage in automobile service and sales. The "Sino-German experimental class" established by SGAVE under the Ministry of Education will train automobile electromechanical talents according to relevant training standards and certificate systems from German automobile makers (including Audi, Benz, Porsche, Volkswagen etc.).

[Main Courses] Automobile Machinery and Drawing Recognition, Automotive Electronic Technology Basis, Automotive Electrical Basis, Automobile Engine Structure and Repair, Automobile Chassis Structure and Repair, Automotive Electrical System, Electronic Control Technology of Automobile Engine, Automobile Failure Diagnosis Technology, Automobile sales business, Automobile Business Practice Training, Automobile After-sales Business, Automobile Maintenance and Reception Practice, Automobile Performance Detection Technology, Automobile Maintenance and Service, Practical training for comprehensive automobile project, etc.

The Sino-German experimental class will teach in accordance with the requirements of SGAVE, which include 8 modules, namely, "maintenance and service of automobile and its systems", "diagnosis and maintenance of engine’s mechanical structure ", "diagnosis and repair of electrical system and energy/starting system", "diagnosis and repair of engine management system", "diagnosis and repair of powertrain ", "diagnosis and repair of driving and control systems", "diagnosis and repair of alternative fuel drive system" and "communication and interaction in repair station".

[Employment Prospects] Students can engage in mechanical and electrical maintenance, service reception, sales, insurance claims, loss assessment of vehicle in accident, appraisal and evaluation and performance detection in dealers, insurance companies, companies providing maintenance, sales, evaluation and testing services, car manufacturers and other relevant companies. The students of the Sino-German class will receive a SGAVE certificate in addition to their diploma after passing the national unified examination, which will help them get a job at German dealers and manufacturers in Shenzhen.

[Excellent Teaching Conditions] This major has a team composed of 7 full-time teachers, with 6 and 1 holding a doctor degree and a master degree, respectively. Five are associate professor. There is also a team of 20 part-time teachers, with all of them being skillful craftsmen who worked at the production line of enterprises. Team members often receive systematic training from Porsche, BMW, Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and other German carmakers and are always at the forefront of the development of automobile technology, and follow the development direction of new technologies and technologies of the future. In January 2018, the team represented the Institute to win the title of "SGAVE Model College under the Ministry of Education". Dr. Song Zhumei was awarded "the First Prize of ‘BYD Cup’ New Energy Automobile Teaching Contest of Skills Contest of Vocational Colleges of the National Mechanical Industry in 2018" and " the Third Place of Porsche Apprentice Training Programme Teachers Skill Contest 2016 (Electromechanical Group)". She is the only full-time teacher who won the honor in all higher vocational education colleges across China (those who won the First Place and the Second Place are in-house trainers of Porsche). Under the guidance by teachers Yuan Jixuan and Huang Hongliang, the students won the Second Prize in Guangdong New Energy Automobile Technology and Service Contest in 2018 (Higher Vocational School Group) and the Second Prize in Guangdong Automobile Detection and Maintenance Skills Contest in 2016 (Higher Vocational School Group). Furthermore, they presided over 2 provincial, 3 municipal, and 7 school-level research programs, and applied for 2 patents and presided over 3 school-level high-quality resource sharing courses.

The training base of automotive electronic technology major was designated by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province as a provincial-level training base, with an area of nearly 2,000 m2 and the total value of equipment reaching nearly 10 million yuan. The training base provides vehicles such as Volkswagen Touran, Sagitar, Bora, Great Wall Motor and BYD as well as high-end vehicles such as Tesla for training.

[Excellent Teacher] Dr. Song Zhumei, female, born in 1978, associate professor, is an automobile maintenance electrician, senior assessor for automobile maintenance electricians in Shenzhen, automotive engineer of China Society of Automotive Engineers, and a certified teacher and examiner of SGAVE. She won the First Prize of "BYD Cup" New Energy Automobile Teaching Contest of Skills Contest of Vocational Colleges of the National Mechanical Industry in 2018, and the Third Place of Porsche Apprentice Training Programme Teachers Skill Contest 2016 (Electromechanical Group).

She previously received training in Hildesheim, Germany and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She has participated in technical training held by automobile brands for several times, including BMW’s new technology training, Porsche’s senior electric system training (P96), Porsche’s new automobile technology training, 13th double-qualified training in the national automobile maintenance field, training for teachers of national higher vocational colleges, etc. She has been teaching in the Institute for more than 10 years, and has trained several excellent students who worked in relevant automobile companies in Shenzhen including Fortune Global 500 companies. As the head of the project, Song has presided over 1 project funded by the National Science Foundation of Guangdong Province and 1 basic research project funded by the Science and Technology Innovation Committee of Shenzhen, published more than 10 papers, received 3 patents, and participated in several research projects.

[Excellent Graduate] Liu Xuan, male, is a graduate of automotive electronic technology major of the class of 2015 and now serves as manager of Southern China region of Hclabo Automobile Service Co., Ltd. After graduation, he joined the company’s development and technology department to participate in product development and external training. He worked diligently and was recognized by his leaders, so he was transferred to the sales department from the development and technology department within 1 year and was responsible for sales at dealers. After that, he was promoted as manager of Southern China region less than 2 years after graduation to oversee the business of Southern China region.

[Additional Information] As of the end of 2016, there were over 3.3 million vehicles in Shenzhen, ranking second nationwide. Hence, the city has great demand for automobile after-sales service talents. The automotive electronic technology major of the Institute was included in the second batch of colleges under a pilot program of SGAVE in 2012 and won the "SGAVE Model College under the Ministry of Education" in January 2018. The program is an international cooperation program led by senior leaders of China and Germany and in cooperation with German automobile manufacturers (including Audi, Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen) and aims to improve the vocational education for China’s automobile electromechanical technology talents. All of the teaching for the Sino-German Class is carried out in workshops, in which they receive theoretical knowledge and conduct practice, thus significantly improving students’ practical ability. Therefore, the graduates of the automotive electronic technology are well-received by German car dealers and parallel import automobile enterprises. Some graduates or trainees worked at car dealers such as Porsche, Audi, Benz, Maserati and Volkswagen.

3 Construction Engineering Management

[Educational Objectives] This major aims to train high-quality technical and skillful talents who master the specialized knowledge about construction engineering technology, construction engineering management and construction engineering economy and the basic skills of engineering project administrator (who have professional skills in constructional engineering’s quality, progress, costs, safety control and management and the capability of hosting and completing the bidding process for construction projects, contract negotiation, and prior management for construction projects) and receive elementary training in administration of construction projects. Such talents can engage in whole-process management for construction projects, know technology, economy and management and meet the requirements for the transformation of the construction industry and companies’ technological innovation.

[Main Courses] Construction Drawings, Building Construction, Construction Engineering survey, Building Construction Technology, Construction Organization and Management, Measurement and Valuation of Construction Engineering, Plane Drawing Recognition and Rebar Calculation, Quality and Safety Management of Construction Engineering, Project Bidding and Contract Management, Data management of Construction Engineering, Construction Equipment, Construction Economy, Basis of BIM Technology, Application of BIM Technology, Construction of Steel Structure, Drawing Recognition and Structure of Municipal Engineering, Comprehensive Training of Engineering Project, etc.

[Employment Prospects] The graduates of the major have lots of employment opportunities. For the initial employment, they can work in construction engineering companies and decoration engineering companies as coordinator, construction worker, measurer, quality controller, safety officer, cost engineer, technician, document and material keeper, and BIM engineer; they may work in construction design companies and decoration design companies as draftsman and design assistant; they may work in construction supervision companies as supervisor, quality controller, safety officer, technician, document keeper, cost engineer, and coordinator; they may work in engineering consulting companies and cost consulting companies as cost engineer, coordinator, and technician; they may work in urban construction and management government departments and property developers as technician, quality controller, safety officer, document keeper, cost engineer, and coordinator; they may serve as technical positions at other organizations such as construction labor service companies and property management companies. After working for some time, they can take the exams of qualification certificates for practicing such as registered constructor, registered cost engineer, registered supervising engineer, registered safety engineer to get senior positions such as project manager, engineering director and contract budget director.

[Excellent Teaching Conditions] The major has a teaching team composed of 7 full-time teachers, among which 4 hold a doctor degree, 4 are associated professor, 3 are high-level talents in Shenzhen and 5 teachers obtain various national registered qualification certificates, and all of them previously worked in companies and had experience in project management. The school invited two teachers from other schools of the Institute to give lessons and one holds a master degree and another is associate professor. There are several part-time teachers from companies. With a strong ability in research, the teaching team currently undertakes 4 programs funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China. The major has good conditions for training, with 1 "training base for vocational education of architectural engineering technology in Guangdong". The base houses training rooms for building drawing, building construction, engineering cost, engineering survey, construction materials and detection, equipped with the latest computer assisted teaching software worth 6 million yuan covering engineering budgeting, engineering pricing, architectural design, structural design, construction technology simulation, project safety simulation, engineering safety checking, engineering progress management, engineering bidding and tendering management, engineering data management, as well as a large number of high-performance computer workstations and teaching and training platforms such as internationally renowned Bentley BIM software system and China’s renowned Luban BIM, advanced engineering surveying equipment (2.5 million yuan) and advanced building materials and testing equipment (80 million yuan). The teaching of courses is almost conducted in the training rooms. The major has set up a studio on application of BIM technology and teachers will lead excellent students to participate in the engineering projects from the school’s partners and provide BIM technology services according to the standard and requirements from companies. Each semester, the major will select excellent students to participate in 1 or 2 vocational skills contests, and those who perform well may apply to the school for a scholarship for special contribution. Over the past two years, students won 3 First Prizes and 5 Second Prizes in various national and provincial skills contests. The major has offered support to students to help them obtain senior certificates at school and those who have obtained certificates can apply to the Institute for a scholarship. The major organized teachers to offer individual coaching to some excellent students to help them get enrolled by universities.

[Excellent Teacher] Liu Qinglin, male, born in 1969, senior engineer and doctor of civil engineering, had 18 years of experience in engineering before serving as a teacher and previously engaged in design of architectural structure, preparation and review of engineering budget, contract and bidding and tendering management, planning and design management, early planning of government–invested projects and construction site management, etc. In recent years, he has been improving his teaching ability and guided students through participating in skills contests in engineering cost, construction technology application, drawing recognition for construction engineering, construction engineering survey, and students won prizes for several times.

Wu Bing, male, a graduate of constructional engineering management of the Class of 2010, is general manager of Guangdong Jiming Glass Engineering Co., Ltd. The Company mainly engages in research and development, production and construction of building materials. In January 2011, he was named as "outstanding individual in setting up business by college student in Guangdong in 2010" by the Organization Department of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Publicity Department of Guangdong, Human Resources and Social Security Department of Guangdong Province, Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Department of Finance of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions and China Communist Youth League Committee of Guangdong Province. Wu Bing is a leader for young people who set up businesses. [Excellent Teacher] He Xiaofeng, female, born in 1964, professor, post-doctor fellow in chemistry in Mount Allison University, Canada, is a leader of a provincial-level excellent teaching team and school-level key major, and a member of Teaching Guiding Committee of Chemical Engineering Major in Higher Vocational Education in Guangdong Province. She is the dean of School of Traffic and Environment, the Institute. She has been working in higher education for more than 20 years and serving as a teacher in the core specialized courses such as Analytical Chemistry and Indoor Environment Detection and obtained excellent teaching quality over the years. She has rich experience in teaching and research, and has written more than 20 academic papers, of which more than 10 of them were included by SCI. [Excellent Teacher] Xiang Huiqiang, male, born in 1974, professor and doctor, is a member of the municipal engineering committee of the teaching guiding committee for civil engineering major from universities and higher vocational colleges of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. He conducted the post-doctoral research in civil engineering at Beijing University of Technology from April 2004 to May 2006, and from January 2003 to August 2014, he served as teacher and director of the teaching and research office and deputy director of teaching in the Department of Architecture of Shijiazhuang Institute of Railway Technology, and was selected as 1 of the third-level talents of the “333 Talent Project” in the new century in Hebei Province. The major has good conditions for practical training, with six practical training bases in the school, namely, landscape drawing room, landscape information technology practical training room, landscape engineering management practical training room, landscape materials and measurement practical training room, landscape engineering practical training room and landscape plant practical training room (glasshouse), covering an area of 1094.16. Such bases are fitted with 260 sets of equipment such as computer, landscape engineering technology information software, total station, level instrument, theodolite (electronic), photoelectric balance, gas chromatograph, temperature and humidity chamber and instruments for maintenance of landscape plants, with the total value reaching 4.87 million yuan. She is a post-doctoral fellow at Harbin Institute of Technology and Shenzhen University. Under her guidance, students won the Third Prize of Guangdong Micro Landscape Creative Design Competition.
