The Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) planned to meet the requirements set forth in the "Education Action Plan for Facilitating the Joint Construction of the Belt and Road of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education (2018-2020)". It also planned to seize the development opportunities of the Belt and Road Initiative and to contribute to the construction of a high-level vocational college featuring quality disciplines with Chinese characteristics and other goals towards globalization. To achieve the above, a SZIIT delegation, with the strong support of the SZIIT leadership, visited Assumption University in Thailand on January 6, 2020 (local time). The delegation was composed of Ms. Deng Guoli (Director of the Public Course Education Department), Mr. Wan Shoufu (Dean of the School of Management), Mr. Zhan Shaobin (Deputy Dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), Mr. Tan Xu (Deputy Dean of the School of Software Engineering), Dr. Zhang Pu from the School of Electronic Communication Technology and Dr. Zhang Yunsheng from the School of International Exchange and Cooperation. The two sides explored their inter-school cross-border cooperation and reached a preliminary framework agreement.

Mr. Glen Chatelier, Director of the International Affairs Office of Assumption University, detailed the history of how their university was established, and also talked about their early cooperation with SZIIT. The two sides had several previous discussions and initially determined the partnership. This meeting is expected to make further progress and continue to promote China-Thailand cooperation.

Professor Deng Guoli, head of the SZIIT delegation, suggested that a framework agreement be reached and a formal partnership be established on the basis of previous cooperation. The two sides will explore how to conduct specific collaborative projects under the framework of the cooperation agreement so as to facilitate future sustainable collaboration between the two sides.

The two sides then discussed in detail the launch of a two-way teacher-student exchange program and the promotion of Assumption University's experiential education and practice project in Shenzhen, as well as the dual-degree award and the construction of a modern vocational education system. In addition, the delegation provided suggestions on the future joint establishment of the "Shenzhen Information Industry Technology School" with Assumption University.

Then, representatives of both sides held the opening ceremony for the "International Language Training Base". This is a training and experiential teaching base designed to help Shenzhen students to learn foreign languages such as English and Thai. It builds a bridge to promote international language and cultural exchanges.

Assumption University is located in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. It is the first international university in Thailand to teach all courses in English. It is also the largest and most prestigious private university in Thailand. Founded in 1901, Assumption University is a comprehensive university with modern management. This university has a total of 65 disciplines and employs a credit system. All aspects of this university are in line with international standards. It has students from 55 countries and teachers from 41 countries.

During this visit, the delegation reached a preliminary agreement on the signing of the cooperation framework agreement with Assumption University. The two sides also discussed the detailed implementation plan. This is the beginning of substantial cooperation between SZIIT and Thai universities, laying a solid foundation for SZIIT's cross-border teaching and training. This also symbolizes a new historic stage for SZIIT's international exchanges and cooperation in Southeast Asia.

In addition to Mr. Glen Chatelier (Director of the International Affairs Office of Assumption University), Mr. Rangsan Traibutra (Director of the Graduate Studies Office), Ms. Puntharee (Ms. Gift) (Director of the School Relations and Public Affairs Office), Dr. Israngkul na Ayudthaya, Mr. Wang Qi (Executive Vice President of the Thai-Chinese International College), Mr. Liu Shengya (a specialist for Chinese projects) and representatives of the Thai business community also attended the meeting.
